Miyake Komame (三宅小まめ)

Komame MIYAKE (1910 -) is a Gion Kobu geisha (Japanese professional female entertainer at drinking parties) and an accredited master of the Inoue school of Kamigatamai (dance). She is from Higashiyama Ward, Kyoto City. Her family runs an okiya (dwelling of geisha).

She attended drinking parties as a maiko (apprentice geisha, at the time, maiko attended drinking parties at the age of about 10 years) in her early teens, and she became a Geisha at the age of 15; thereafter, attending parties as a dancer, Miyako Odori (dance performance held in April by geisha and maiko in Kyoto's Gion district) and Onshukai Dance Performance. Her stage name was first written 小豆, which she disliked and changed to 小まめ.
